Rowley Mile Equine offers an ambulatory externship programme running from March through October within a primary ambulatory sports-medicine practice. This externship provides veterinary students with the opportunity to observe field-based equine veterinarians working predominantly in orthopaedics, lameness investigation, and performance-horse medicine, across thoroughbred racehorses, leisure horses, and sport horses.

Students will gain exposure to a broad range of sports-medicine clinical work, including—but not limited to—lameness examinations, diagnostic analgesia, radiology and ultrasonography, poor-performance investigations, rehabilitation planning, and routine ambulatory care. The caseload reflects a diverse performance population, from elite racehorses to leisure and sport horses at varying levels of work. The externship is observational in nature and is designed to provide insight into case work-up, clinical decision-making, and client communication in a high-level ambulatory setting.
